'Next Music' Progam

The Irving Symphony Orchestra Association [ISOA] has established the 'Next Music' program as an outgrowth of its commitment to music education and its aspiration to engage next generations to experience, appreciate and participate in making great music. Collectively, more than 8,300 diverse students are served annually through the ISO's 'Next Music' education initiatives. The ISOA collaborates with the Irving Independent School District and other schools in the neighboring region to produce a variety of transformative education initiatives within the 'Next Music' program. Among them are the annual 'Concerts 4 Kids.' Each year the Irving Symphony Orchestra produces 4 free concerts designed to engage, educate and inspire every 5th and 7th grade student in the Irving Independent School District, representing more than 5700 young hearts and minds. These remarkable concerts combine live symphonic masterworks and recent film score selections with artfully choreographed and projected local student art work fitting each year's theme.

In the months ahead, the ISO is moving ahead to establish new grass roots connections to serve students living in Irving but attending Coppell and Carrollton/Farmer's Branch schools within Irving. In the 09|10 season, the ISO will produce a 'green'-inspired chamber performance for every 4th grade student in the Irving Independent School District representing a new audience of some 2500 students, and woodwind and brass master classes at Ranchview High School within the Carrollton/Farmer's Branch School district. The ISO will likewise host several roundtable discussions between junior and senior student musicians at Ranchview High School and professional ISO musicians regarding academic preparation to become a professional musician.

The 2010 scheduled concert event:

The 2010 'Concerts 4 Kids' will be presented at Calvery Church, 4401 N. Highway 161, Irving, Thursday, October 21 and Friday, October 22, 9:00AM and 10:45AM.

This event is open to the public. Over the course of 22 years the ISO has served approximately 112,000 students in free performances.
