ISO OPENING NIGHT SELLOUT!

IRVING, TX: On Saturday, October 11, 2008 Cirque de la Symphonie joined the Irving Symphony Orchestra [ISO] for an absolute sellout of Carpenter Performance Hall at the Irving Arts Center in a ONE-NIGHT-ONLY event. Every seat for the history-making production was sold more than 24 hours in advance of performance. The program for the evening included musical selections by Glinka, Bizet, Khachaturian, Chabrier, Brahms, Rimsky-Korsakov and others which were dramatically enhanced by performances by some of the finest Cirque performers from across North America. Cirque de la Symphonie opened the ISO’s 2008-2009 dare 2b different subscription season establishing a new direction for the 46-year legacy symphony. The presentation marked a first step in the metamorphosis of the ISO as it takes bold new measures to become original among symphonies in North Texas producing truly signature music experiences with a social conscience. The Cirque collaboration with the ISO was the only presentation of its kind anywhere in North Texas this season.

ISO President Mr. Tracy J Boyd commented that “the dynamic between ISO musicians and Cirque performers was notable with demonstrated and expressed mutual respect.” Alexander Streltsov [aerial artist], Vladimir Malachikhin [balancing artist], Larissa Sherman [acrobat] and Jarek and Darek [strongmen] mesmerized the audience with spell-binding feats precisely choreographed to symphonic masterwork selections. Maestro Guzman stated that “the impact of a full house had decided impact on our musicians. They played with a fervor and intensity I’ve not witnessed in several years.”

The dare 2b different season continues on November 8 with a presentation entitled, b enlightened featuring the premiere of a new contemporary commission entitled Chasing Light…composed by famed American composer Joseph Schwantner. The ISO is one of only two symphonies in Texas selected by the League of American Orchestras to premiere this new landmark work. In addition, cellist Amit Peled from the Peabody Conservatory will perform the Dvorak Cello Concerto with the ISO.

The ISO is a different symphony for a different audience; a distinctive boutique professional symphony composed primarily of young virtuosic talent which performs in a humanly-scaled hall producing visceral, here-and-now experiences.
